ANDERSON, Norbert E.

The Arizona Republic 3/26/2010 Anderson, Norbert E. July 16, 1924 - March 23, 2010. We all mourn the passing on March 23, 2010 of Norbert E. Anderson - our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend, at the age of 85. Born on July 16, 1924, "Andy" married Julia Montgomery on September 18, 1947, and was the love of her life, and she of his, until she was taken by cancer. With Julia, Andy brought three children into the world: Deborah (Jeffry Baker) Anderson of Durango, Colorado, Robert (Monica) Anderson of Santa Rosa, California, and James (Angela) Anderson, of Olathe, Kansas. While being father to Deborah, Bob and Jim, Andy was also equal parts mentor, brother and friend to Julia's younger brother, Roy Montgomery. Roy, his wife, Kathy, and their children Karyn and Bobby will all miss Andy. On April 4, 1984, Andy struck gold for the second time when he married Rhoda J. Johnson. He has been the love of her life, and she of his ever since. Together, Andy and Rhoda have seen the world and felt true love and partnership - with plenty of room in their home and hearts for Rhoda's late father, Herbert Johnson, Andy's step-son, Gregory (Nikki) McBroom, and step-daughter, Paula Reiter, of Phoenix, Arizona. Andy came up from a hardscrabble childhood in Richmond, Indian, during the Great Depression. The very model of "The Great Generation", he served with honor in WWII, graduated from Indiana State Teachers College and then Northwestern Law School with a Juris Doctor, and then rose by sheer talent, gut & hard work to be the chief labor attorney for a major U.S. Corporation and its many subsidiaries. Then, in, 1977, he was stricken by leukemia - out of nowhere, shortly after he lost Julia. Against all odds, Andy beat leukemia - to the great benefit of all his family, colleagues, friends, and countless anonymous beneficiaries of his work, charity & goodness. And for the following 30+ years, Andy provided for, served, guided and loved all of us who will now go on with our lives - less full without him here, but so much more full because he was. Andy is survived by his loving wife, Rhoda, his brother, John Anderson of Williamsburg, VA, his children and step-children, as well as his grandchildren and step-grandchildren" Julia (Ben), Meghann, Kale (Ranko), Sergia, Lauren, Jake, Mason, Taylor, Alaena, and Ryan, as well as his great-grandson, Cedar, along with another great-grandchild who is expected by Kale & his wife, Ranko, this coming September. If you have had the good fortune to know Andy, come cry, laugh, remember and love with us at 2:30 pm, Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona - 602-840-5600.
