Flavio “Jim” Jimenez passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Northbay Medical Center in Fairfield, Calif.
He was born to Josefina Carmona and Antonio Jimenez in Miami, Ariz. on May 12, 1922.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II in the Pacific Theater and was very proud to have been a Marine.
Jim was an outstanding high school athlete at Miami High School, where he played football and baseball and ran track and field. He attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff on an athletic scholarship before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1942.
In 2007, Jim was inducted into the Miami High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his achievements as a member of the 1938 State Championship football team, and as an individual State Champion in the Javelin Throw.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Lorraine, of Fairfield, Calif.; sons, Bob, Mark and Jim Jimenez and Lindsey Granger; daughter, Lena Newman; sisters, Sylvia Almeyda, Angelita Jimenez, and Alice Taylor; and brothers, Tom and Trini Hernandez, of Arizona. Jim is adored and revered by many beautiful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his former wives, June and Delma; brother, Frank Jimenez; son, U.S. Army Lt. “Sonny” Granger, who gave his life in Vietnam; and daughter, Loretta Vineyard.
