ROBERTSON, Bill


The Arizona Republic 4/1/2010 Robertson, Bill Bill Robertson, 83, died on March 29, 2010. Bill grew up on a farm in Frankfort, KY. After high school, he went to enlist in the Navy but was "volunteered" instead to join the U.S. Marine Corps. He was in the first wave of Marines on Iwo Jima and survived to leave at battle's end. After a brief time serving in Japan at war's end, he returned home and entered the University of Kentucky where he received his Bachelor's Degree. During this time, he met and married Ruth Penn, a young working gal who had been rooming with Bill's sister. Bill and Ruth moved to Indiana where his earned his Master's Degree at Purdue University and then to Long Island, NY, where Bill worked at Sperry Flight Systems. They transferred to Phoenix in 1959 and have lived there ever since, with a brief interlude in Northridge, CA, while Bill worked for Teledyne in 1967/8. Along with Ruth, Bill is survived by his daughters Kathy Behr and Sue Jimenez and grandchildren Agustin and Ariana Jimenez. The family is grateful to all of Bill's friends who visited him during his recent illness and greatly appreciates the compassionate, competent care provided by Hospice of the Valley and the Arizona Lullaby Guild. A service in memory of Bill will be held at 11AM, Saturday, April 3, 2010, Hansen Desert Hills Chapel, 6500 E. Bell Rd., Scottsdale, with a reception to follow.
