GUTHRIE, Leroy J.


Ajo Copper News 10/12/2005 Leroy J. Guthrie, 81, died October 1, 2005, in Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born August 1, 1924, in Imperial, California, the son of Jess & Renna Guthrie. In 1942, he married his wife Gertrude and they shared 63 loving years together, said his family. He entered the Army in December 1943 and served the nation during World War II. Mr. Guthrie was a longtime Ajo resident. He worked for Phelps Dodge as a locomotive engineer. At the time of his death, he was making his home in Tyrone, New Mexico. He was an avid horseman and enjoyed roping. In Ajo he was a member of the Ajo Roping Club. He also liked playing a good game of pool. His family says he will be greatly missed by all his family and friends but the wonderful memories they have of him will live on in their hearts forever. Mr. Guthrie was preceded in death by his parents, Jess & Renna Guthrie, and by his brothers Dokie, Glen, Jake, and Lonnie Guthrie. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Guthrie of Tyrone; by his son & daughter-in-law, Lonnie Lee & Daisy Guthrie of Tyrone; by his daughter, Linda Langford of Tyrone; by his grandchildren, Shannon, Jason, Tanya, Cammie, Tammie, Rory, and Ragina; and by his nineteen great-grandchildren. A memorial service with military honors was held at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in New Mexico on Wednesday afternoon, October 5. The services were led by Pastor Greg Burchfield. Arrangements were by Terrazas Funeral Chapels of New Mexico.
