Charles L. Zimmerman
Charles L. Zimmerman, 62, of Duncan passed away Thursday, May 14, in Tucson. He was born Oct. 24, 1946, to Charles and Beulah Zimmerman and raised in Minnesota.
Charlie had a deep love for his country and proudly served in the Navy. He married Renee Sowell on Sept. 11, 2002, and their love grew more and more each day. He loved being with Renee and spending time with her and her family, especially her niece, Brittany, and nephew, Sammy.
Charlie was very mechanically oriented. He enjoyed building and repairing just about anything. He was an active member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, a founding member of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, D.C., and a valued supporter of the National Children's Cancer Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dwayne; and sister, Karen Goldman. He is survived by his wife, Renee; parents-in-law, Samuel Sr. and Delores Sowell of Chicago; brother-in-law, Samuel Sowell Jr.; sister-in-law, Lucia Sowell; niece, Brittany Sowell; and nephew, Samuel Sowell III, all of El Paso. He is also survived by his best friends of many years, John and Connie Jones of California, David Gould of Duncan, Angel and Rosa Rojas of Douglas and Doug and Rosa Hansen of Duncan.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 20, at 1 p.m. in the First Southern Baptist Church, 210 Gale Ave. in Duncan, with viewing one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the Duncan Cemetery with military honors provided by the Duncan Valley Honor Guard.
