Thomas Leslie Neilson 1927 - 2010
Thomas Leslie Neilson, returned to his Heavenly Father March 25, 2010. He was born November 24, 1927 in Kanab, Utah to Les and Lucy (Eagar) Neilson. During his early life he lived in many towns around Arizona. Later in life he spent most of his time in Cottonwood and Camp Verde. He often said “Camp Verde is my town.” Tom served our country in the Army and during the occupation of Japan at the close of WWII.
He had many jobs, he worked with father for many years and later worked at the cement plant in Clarkdale.
Tom also operated a hot dog cart on Main Street in Camp Verde.
Tom was a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America and was awarded scouting’s Silver Beaver Award for 48 years of service. He also worked as Santa’s helper for thirty years. In 1986 he was appointed to the interim Camp Verde Town Council by county supervisor, Wes Maldan. He always helped with town policies and as a volunteer from sidewalks to the design and construction of the gazebo on Main Street.
He will be loved and missed by all. Funeral services for Tom will be 9:30am Saturday April 3, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Camp Verde chapel, Fifth and Holloman Streets, Camp Verde.
