NORDWALL, Curtis C.


Curtis C. Nordwall, Dec 7, 1925 - Aug 2, 2002. Born, on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, MN. Sixty (60) years ago today, on his 17th birthday, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to a P.T. Boat. Curtis participated in every major naval engagement in the South Pacific, from Guadalcanal to Leyte Gulf. He served in the occupation forces in Japan. Curtis received numerous decorations for his wartime service. He advanced in his career and was commissioned as an officer in 1960. The last ten years of his career he served in the submarine service, ending his naval career in 1967 as the weapons officer on a Polaris submarine. From 1970 through 1985, Curtis worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs serving in several posts including Superintendent of the Truxton Canyon and Papago Agencies in Arizona.
