WHITING, Loren Willis (Bill)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 04/23/2004 Loren Willis Whiting died April 17, 2004 in Show Low. "Bill" as he was known to his family and friends. He was born Oct. 19, 1920 in St. Johns, the eighth child of Charley and Caddie Whiting. Bill was reared in Vernon and graduated from St. Johns High School. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Central States Mission, serving there when WWII began. Promptly upon release from his mission, he joined the Navy to serve his country. He married Margie Kempe in 1944 and spent the next 60 (wonderful) years with her at his side. His survivors include his wife Margie and their five children, Dan (Evelyn) Whiting, Vernal Utah, Silvia Whiting, St. Johns, Jack (Karen) Whiting, Eagar, Judy (Dan) Austin, Springerville, Donna (Tom) Anderson, St. Johns; brother Fernand C. Whiting, St. Johns; and 30 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24, at 10 a.m. in the St. Johns LDS Downtown Chapel. Interment will be at the Vernon Cemetery.
