The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 04/30/2004 Melvin L. Keen,, 57, died Friday, April 23, 2004 at Tucson Medical Center. Melvin was born and raised in Minden, Nebraska, was the oldest of six siblings, and served in the military. He loved the rodeo and loved to team rope. He also enjoyed writing cowboy poetry. Melvin will be truly missed. Melvin is survived by his wife, Maria I. Keen of Willcox; three sons, Matthew Keen, Jamie Russell and Melecio L. Keen; two daughters, Lisa Lazo and Melita Laswell; three brothers, Allen Keen, Merlin Keen and Armin Keen; two sisters, Rosemary Brown and Sylvia Sawyer; a granddaughter, Ashley Keen; grandson, Zakuree Lazo. He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Gracelyn Taylor Laswell and Tracey Lynn Laswell; nephew, Tracey Allen Keen. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 27 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Snowflake Stake Center. Interment was in the Snowflake Cemetery.
