PETERSON, Sylvia Evelyn


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 04/30/2004 Sylvia Evelyn Peterson, 95, died April 24, 2004 in Show Low. She was born Oct. 7, 1908 in Narka, Kansas. After working many years as a nursing assistant, she returned to college and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse at age 55. She worked in two hospitals in Mesa and several nursing facilities, finally taking her retirement when she was 84. She traveled extensively after she retired, enjoying adventures in Alaska, Hawaii and Nova Scotia. Sylvia is survived by her three daughters, Coral (Roger) Ballard of Agoura Hills, California, Vernice (Ronald) Quigley of Seattle, Washington and Carla (Fritz) Knotts of Taylor; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Helen Little; brother, Albert Kennedy as well as her extended family of stepchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl and son, Rollie. Funeral services were handled by Owens Mortuary in Snowflake. In lieu of flower, the family has requested that donations be made to either RTA Hospice of Show Low or The Salvation Army of the White Mountains.
