The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 04/06/2010 Lucy Fayette Lewis, 102, of Vernon died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at her residence. She was born Dec. 29, 1907, in Fayette County, S.D., to Robert Edward and Ella Pearl (Root) Lockwood. She lived in Heron, S.D., until moving to Los Angeles at age 16. She married Harry Lewis Sept. 15, 1926, in San Bernardino, Calif. She moved to Vernon in 1982. She had been a sincere, dedicated Jehovah's Witness since 1947. She was the matriarch of her family and was a member of the Kingdom Hall in Show Low. Survivors include three daughters, Ruth Ellen Volkoff of Eagar; Myrna Dickinson (Marion) of Vernon; Karen Waldorf (Ron) of Lakeside; son Harry Walter Lewis of Yuma; 11 grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Robert Lewis, son-in-law Andy Volkoff and eight siblings. Burial was at the Vernon Cemetery under the direction of Black's Mortuary of Show Low. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 201 E. Whipple in Show Low. She lived in Heron, South Dakota, until moving to Las Angeles at age sixteen. She was married to Harry Lewis on September 15, 1926, at San Bernardino, California. She moved to Vernon in 1982. She had been a sincere, dedicated Jehovah’s Witness since 1947. She was the Matriarch of her family and was a member of the Kingdom Hall in Show Low. Survivors include three daughters, Ruth Ellen Volkoff of Eager; Myrna Dickinson and husband Marion of Vernon; Karen Waldorf and husband Ron of Lakeside; a son, Harry Walter Lewis of Yuma; eleven grandchildren; and many great and great great grandchildren; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
