WEST, Everett Coleman (Rip)


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, April 7, 2010 Everett Coleman "Rip" West, age 75, of Roosevelt, Utah, passed away April 3, 2010, at the Uintah Basin Rehabilitation and Senior Villa. Rip was born Oct. 9, 1934, in Prescott, Ariz., to Erving Coleman and Amy Elaine Stock West. He married Janet Lee Fairweather Aug. 19, 1957, in Phoenix, Ariz. Rip was raised in Arizona on the family ranch and learned to love working the land and with animals at an early age. He helped run the ranch until his father died in 1977; he and Janet then moved to the Uintah Basin. He then owned and ran a ranch in Bennett, retiring just six years ago. For many years he worked as a hunting guide, searching for bears, lions and elk. During college and in his younger years he enjoyed participating in the rodeo, roping and riding bulls. He worked at the local sales barn for many years and enjoyed the friendships he developed with those who attended. In 2009, he won the "Old-Timers Award" from the Duchesne Cattle Association. He is survived by his wife, Janet; brother Alvin (Phyllis) West of Tempe, Ariz.; sisters Elaine (Karl) Heydorn of Kanab, Utah, and Mary Lou Pierce of Mayer, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Irene Murphey. There will be no funeral or memorial services. Cremation arrangements handled by the Hullinger Mortuary.
