Dean D. Moody, devoted husband, father, and family man, died on the morning of Thursday, June 3, 2004 at home in Pinetop.
He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and raised in Superior as the son of a longtime copper miner, Charles J. Moody. His mother, Dolores, was a school teacher in Superior. His only brother, Charles was killed in action during WWII in the Pacific theater.
Dean graduated from Superior Union High School in 1944 and enlisted into the Navy at the age of 17, in January 1945. He was honorably discharged in July 1946, and later served in the Naval Reserve and retired honorably as a Lt. JG in 1954. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1950 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta social fraternity while in college.
Dean married Barbara Ann Peabody of Phoenix, in December 1949 at the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Phoenix. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary four years ago in the valley.
Dean practiced mechanical, electrical, and consulting engineering for over 50 years, primarily in Arizona. Projects of note include the engineering of many of the Motorola plants in the valley. He was a member and officer of a number of professional societies, including ASHRAE, NSPE, ASPE, and IEEE.
In 1980, Dean closed his engineering firm in Phoenix and took an engineering position with the U.S. Agency for International Development, a branch of the U.S. Department of State. He and Barbara lived and worked in Cairo, Egypt; Khartoum, Sudan, Sanaa, North Yemen; and Bridgetown, Barbados over a ten year span.
They retired to the White Mountains in 1990 where the family has maintained residence since the 1940s. They have been active members of the Church of Our Savior Episcopal Church in Show Low and the White Mountain and Pinetop Lakes Country Clubs.
He is survived by his wife, two children; daughter, Pat Agnew of Jackson, Mississippi; son, Charles of Phoenix; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held June 7 at the Church of Our Savior in Show Low, another service will be held in Paradise Valley June 8 at the Christ Church of the Ascension.
