COOKSEY, Martha

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, April 14, 2010 Martha Cooksey, 93, was called home to her heavenly Father and into the arms of her beloved husband Bruce on April 13, 2010. Born on July 24, 1916, in Letts Corner, Ind., Martha had three brothers and one sister. She lost her mother at a very young age and raised her brothers and sister. This set the stage for a lifetime of deep love and caring for any family member or friends. Her ability to comfort, love, care for and support others was truly unmatched. She had such an amazing gift of love. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn Cooksey. She is survived by her sons, John Ewing (Rosie), Harold Ewing (Sally), William Cooksey (Judith) and Allan Cooksey. Her 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren are a true testament to her strong sense of love and family. She and her husband Bruce lived the majority of their lives in Peoria, Ill. (where she worked at Bradley University) and Prescott, Ariz. She was a member of Prescott Community Church. Martha put many miles on our rocking chairs as she was always rocking a grandbaby as well as lending a hand, or busy in the kitchen caring for us all. Her cobblers and pies were legendary. She is now rejoicing with the Lord and the blackberries are a little sweeter in heaven today. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley in her name. Visitation is at 1 p.m. and services will be at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010, at Phoenix Memorial Park & Mortuary, 200 W. Beardsley Road in Phoenix, Ariz. Information provided by survivors.
