Ashby "Bright" Livesay, 82, of Ahwatukee, Ariz., formerly of Cedar Rapids and Williamsburg, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in Ahwatukee from an embolism following recent surgery. Services were May 10 at Mountain View Lutheran Church, Ahwatukee.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; a daughter, Jacque Ruggles of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, Gary of Des Moines; and a sister, Maxine Giblin of Ahwatukee.
Also surviving are two grandchildren, Marci and Dain; and three great-granddaughters, Chelsie, Jamie and Ashli.
Born Jan. 28, 1918, in Macksburg, Iowa, Bright was subsequently raised in Williamsburg. He served four years in the U.S. Navy on the USS Milwaukee out of San Diego. On July 30, 1937, Bright married the love of his life, Phyllis Elaine Campbell of North English, and proceeded to raise their family.
Following his military service, Bright and Phyllis moved back to Cedar Rapids, where they remained until his retirement as a district sales manager for Coca Cola Co. (food division). Upon retirement, he and Phyllis moved to Ahwatukee, Ariz., to begin their second childhood which consisted of frequent golf and travel. Bright was always an active member of Central Park Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids and Mountain View Lutheran Church in Ahwatukee. He also actively participated in the Shrine in Cedar Rapids and Ahwatukee.
Bright was a wonderful and devoted husband, father and grandfather who generously gave his love and affection to his family and friends. He will be missed by all.
