Martin Brooks "Dutch" Potter, age 77, passed away on March 21, 2010. He was born in Philipsburg, Pa., to George and Velma "Betty" Potter.
He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953. He moved his parents from Pennsylvania to Prescott in 1954 and met the love of his life and best friend, Sara Verrue Potter. They were married in December 1955 and made their home in Prescott to the end.
Dutch worked for Merritt Campwood Saw Mill and Iron King Mine. He also worked for the Arizona Department of Transportation until his retirement. He made many lifelong friends and there wasn't a handyman job he could not complete.
His greatest joy in life was fishing, hunting, cutting firewood and eating "Scooby Snacks" alongside his wife Sara.
Dutch was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club for over 30 years.
He was diagnosed with prostate cancer 10 years ago. His doctors, Dr. Sanwick, Dr. Dahn and Dr. Vu, worked hard keeping the disease at bay. His cancer was an aggressive form and returned with a vengeance, but God decided his fight was over and welcomed him to reside with Sara, his wife of 55 years, in Heaven.
Dutch is survived by his daughter, Marti Potter Biel (Rich); his son Mark Potter, all of Prescott; his grandchildren, Erin, Lindsey, Tyger and Tyanna; his sisters, BJ "Dorothy" Smith of Prescott and Carol Narehood of Pennsylvania, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2010, in the Victorian Chapel at Hampton Funeral Home, 240 S. Cortez St. in Prescott. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dutch's name to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 218 N. Cortez St., Prescott, AZ 86301.
Hampton Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
