The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 07/16/2004 Burma Sherwood Hamblin, 85, died at her home in Eagar July 11, 2004. Her funeral will be Friday, July 16 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Eagar Stake Center. A brief visitation will precede the service from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burma was born Nov. 10, 1918 in Richville. She was the sixth of 14 children born to Dan Junius Sherwood and Sophronia Brown Sherwood, the son and daughter of early Arizona pioneers, the latter being ArizonaĆ­s Mother of the Year in 1957. Initially attending a one-room school in Richville, Burma would later graduate from St. Johns high school as valedictorian. In 1937 she married Marion Hamblin of Eagar and made that community her life-long home. Following a life of service to her church and family, she is survived by two sons and four daughters; Marion Kay Hamblin, Gilbert; Sherwood Graham Hamblin and Helen Eagar, Mesa; Royene Swapp, Eagar, Ella Louise Wills, Avondale; Patricia Platt, St. Johns; 31 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren.
