Helena “Trudy” Innes
Helena Therlo “Trudy” Childers Innes, 78, of Thatcher passed away March 20 in Safford. Trudy was born Dec. 26, 1929, in Butler County, Ky., to Columbus Childers and Eva Viola Martin Childers. When she was 2-1/2, her mother passed away.
She had two older brothers, Charles and Rollie; and two sisters, Beatrice and Cleo. Her father remarried when she was 15.
When Trudy was 10, she was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Trudy moved to Provo, Utah, and met a young man named Larry Innes. They met in the grocery store where Larry worked, and Trudy started buying bread every day so she would have an excuse to go to the grocery store. They were married in the Mesa Temple on March 2, 1954.
They lived in Provo about seven years, two of them spent by Larry in Korea in the military at the end of the Korean War.
Three of their children were born in Provo: Laura Gene, Donald Thomas and Lawrence Franklin Jr. (Punker).
When Larry went to work with Metropolitan Life Insurance, they had to move to Richfield, Utah. They weren’t so happy there, so they were transferred to Thatcher, where their fourth child, Gregory Vaughn, was born. Trudy said of their move to Thatcher, “We had visited here several times and had felt this would be a wonderful place to raise our children. We have lived here many years, and we feel we have really been blessed to be able to live in this Valley.”
Trudy served in the church in various positions, such as primary teacher, primary secretary and M.IA counselor.
Trudy is survived by her husband, Larry Innes of Thatcher; her children, Laura Marett of Farmington, N.M., Don Innes of Thatcher, Larry Jr. of Phoenix and Greg Innes of Thatcher; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 25, at the Thatcher LDS Stake Center. Trudy was laid to rest in the Thatcher Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to Caldwell Funeral.
