GIANAS, Theodore P. (Ted)


Theodore ("Ted") P. Gianas, 86, died Thursday, May 1, 2003, in Paso Robles, California. A memorial service will be held at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Phoenix, 6300 North Central Avenue, at 5:30pm on Friday, May 16th. Ted was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He served his country in Europe during World War II and, upon his return, married the love of his life, Martha Mills. He received his degree from Northwestern and worked in Chicago until moving with his family to Phoenix, in 1950, where he owned a grocery store with his father. After selling the store, he worked in commercial real estate in Phoenix until he retired. Ted was an artist at heart. He made beautiful silver and turquoise jewelry and enjoyed collecting Native American arts and crafts. He was active in his church and, after retiring, worked tirelessly for more than 9 years as a volunteer at the Saint Mary's Food Bank in Phoenix. In 2001, he moved to Paso Robles to be near his family. Ted lived in Creston Village where he was a beloved member of the community. Ted is survived by son Greg and his wife Ann of Redmond, Washington, son Dave and his wife Peggy of Atascadero, California; granddaughters Kit and Stacey; grandsons Max and Ben; brother Peter and his wife Mary; sister Elaine and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Marty and sister Celeste. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Mary's Food Bank, 2831 North 31st Ave, Phoenix, 85009.
