The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 07/23/2004 Nellie R. Gillespie, 82, died at the White Mountain Regional Medical Center in Springerville July 12, 2004. Nellie was born Feb. 18, 1922 in Floy, to Edward Rothlisberger and Luella Hall. She was the fifth of six children and had two half sisters. She married Leone Gillespie Sept. 7, 1938 and later married in the Mesa Temple. Nellie attended grade school in Floy and Vernon. Later her family moved to St. Johns where she attended high school. Again her parents moved back to Vernon where she married and raised her family while they were small. She got tired of driving the school bus to Eagar, so they moved to Eagar. Nellie retired from the Forest Service. She held a lot of different church jobs for the LDS church starting at the age of 12. Nellie was called along with her husband to be temple workers in the Mesa Temple for eight years and then was called on a mission to Houston, Texas. Nellie is survived by three sons, Arnold (Gari) of Eagar; Thel (Anna) of Provo, Utah, Coy of Eagar; three daughters, Sharon (Corwin) of Eagar, Cathy (Wayne) of Eagar, Joy (Sam) of Eagar; and one brother Paul Rothlisberger of St. Johns; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, one brother and one grandson. Funeral services were held July 15 at the Eagar Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Eagar. Interment was in the Vernon Cemetery. Owens Mortuary handled the arrangements.
