Roy A. Anderson, 89, died July 25, 2004 at Navapache Regional Medical Center in Show Low.
Mr. Anderson was born in Portland, Oregon. He was raised in St. Helens, Oregon where he lived and received his education. He married Hazel E. Fohn in Vancouver, Washington Au. 12, 1939. In 1934 he started working in the St. Helens Pulp and Paper Mill. He started at the bottom and ended up being a Turbine Operator, the highest job in the Steam Plant.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate at Admiralty Islands in the South Pacific. After the service (1954) the family moved to Alaska where he was the assistant power and recovery Superintendent at Ketchikan Pulp Company. In 1961 they moved from Ketchikan to Arizona and have lived in Snowflake ever since.
He was the Superintendent of power and recovery at the Pulp and Paper Mill from the time of construction by Southwest Forest until he retired in 1980. Roy was active in the Town of Snowflake and served as Mayor for a term in the mid 1960's. He served on the Town Council for over 14 years. He had been a member of the Southern Baptist Church. In August he and Hazel would have been married for 65 years.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel of Snowflake, one son, Scott Alton Anderson of Heber and one daughter, Mary Ann Anderson of Show Low, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Jane Anderson of St. Helens, Oregon.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29 at the Snowflake Main Street Chapel, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
