Verde Independent, Cottonwood, AZ Tuesday, April 20, 2010 Claudia Jean Arney 1935 - 2010 Claudia Jean Arney was born in Decorah, Iowa, on November 10, 1935. She lived in Manchester, Iowa before moving to Marshalltown, Iowa, where she completed her high school education. Mrs. Arney graduated from nurses training at St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, later earning her BA in nursing at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. She was a long time active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, MN, and worked as an RN at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis for 20 years. She and her husband raised three children in Minneapolis, Upon retirement in 2004, they moved to Clarkdale, AZ and joined Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church. Mrs. Arney is survived by her husband of 50 years, Craig, three children; David (Becky) of St. Paul, MN, Meredith (Mark) of Columbo, Sri Lanka, and Kristin (Mark) of Harare, Zimbabwe, and four grandchildren: Zachary, Kayla, Sophia and Sonia. Claudia will always be lovingly remembered as “Super Mom” by her children, for the grace and dignity with which she endured this horrible disease (MSA) and for the eloquence with which she described life’s great loves, joys and challenges in her poetry: “Don’t give up! Celebrate what is left. Spend it wisely.” In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church, 101 S. Main St., Suite D, Cottonwood, AZ. 86326.
