Lorene Darr
Lorene Delia arrived June 28, 1923 in Wichita, Kansas. She was the third child of Martin and Christine Nussbaum. Unlike her older brother Joseph and sister Irene, she thrived. Lorene became the eldest child followed by her siblings consisting of two sisters and three brothers. The family was now located in El Reno, Oklahoma and later moved to Amarillo, Texas which is where Lorene attended school. Unlike many girls of that time, Lorene went on to college at St. Louis University. Within three years, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in medical technology.
She went to work in Jonesboro, Arkansas where she met her future husband, Charles Wendell Darr. They were married June 15, 1949 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Amarillo, Texas. The happy couple returned to Jonesboro but later moved to Dumas, Texas. They began their family with the arrival of daughter Christine, son Roland and son Karl. They moved to Lake Jackson, Texas in 1955 where daughter Charlotte arrived.
In 1959, the family moved to Phoenix. They were parishioners of St. Vincent de Paul church and Lorene went to work as a medical technologist at Good Samaritan Hospital where she was the teaching supervisor. Later she moved to Maricopa County Hospital where ultimately she became director of hematology and retired in 1991. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2000.
Charles Wendell Darr (husband), Bernice Lundquist (sister), Leonard Nussbaum (brother), all preceded her in death. She is survived by daughter Christine Luellig (Paul) of Thornton, Colorado; son Roland (Vicki) Darr of Glendale, Arizona; son Karl (Kristy) Darr of Santa Clara, California; daughter Charlotte Alaimo (Charles) of Las Vegas, Nevada. Lorene was blessed with twelve grandchildren: Laura Luellig Guntren, Mary Luellig Parrish, Jennifer Luellig; Stephanie Darr Nicholson. Charles Darr, Ashley Darr; Jason Alaimo, Ryan Alaimo, Andrew Alaimo; Marshall Darr, Melissa Darr, McKenzie Darr; and two great-grandchildren Parker Guntren and Lorene Parrish. A sister and two brothers, numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews also survive her
Visitation will be held from 5PM to 8PM with a Rosary service at 6PM on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85009.
Funeral Services will be held at 8:30 A.M. on Friday, April 30, 2010 at St. Helen's Catholic Church, 5510 W. Cholla St., Glendale, AZ 85304. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery.
