MARESH, John Joseph


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 08/06/2004 John Joseph Maresh, 85, died July 29, 2004 at home in Show Low. John has lived in Show Low for the past two months. He worked as a vehicle and factory mechanic, supervising large crews and as a public service/supervisor for the city of Pasadena, California, when he retired. He belonged to the American Legion and VFW, also serving his country (Tech 4) in the US Army from March of 1941 to Sept. 1945. He participated with the 755th Tank Battalion as tank mechanic during the long Italian campaigns, specifically the Naples- Foggia Rome and Arno, north Appenines and PO Valley campaigns, and was discharged honorably at the end of WWII. John is survived by his son and next of kin, John Frank Maresh of Chandler and Sharron Gail Howard stepdaughter, guardian and care giver for John's last nine months of Show Low; and sister Bessie Fike of Mouton, Texas; nephew, David Fike of Flatonia, Texas; niece Susan Steinhauser of Flatonia, Texas; and numerous grandnephews, grandnieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Anita McLeod and Mary Hruby. Funeral services were held at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in McNary with burial in the National Veteran's Cemetery in Phoenix. Services were handled by Fletcher's Mortuary in Show Low.
