HURTADO, Frank


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 08/10/2004 Frank Hurtado of Phoenix, died Aug. 3, 2004 after a valiant battle with leukemia. He was born Aug. 1, 1946 in Beatty, Oregon to Ned and Rubina Hurtado. During his 26-year career with the US Forest Service, he fought wild fires throughout the western states. As the Road Manager for the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest, he earned the distinction of Technician of the Year for Region 3 (Arizona & New Mexico). His character and impeccable work ethic ensured anything he did was done right. Frank led a very active life. He loved riding bulls, playing basketball, softball and schooling his kids at tennis. His wisdom and wonderful sense of humor will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mimi Hurtado; his children Bryan (Joane) Hurtado, Marty (Kam) Tueller, and Christy (Adam) Halliday; brothers Butch (Anna) Hurtado and Ted (Deb) Hurtado; sisters Nay (Bobby) Flowers, Weezie Poolaw, Roma Lee Herrera, Fay (Darrell) Willems; grandkids Deric, Gage, Kaylee, Eastyn, Chamy, Brayden and Chastity. Lastly, his beloved dog Tuffi. A celebration of his life was held Saturday Aug. 7 at Desert Skies Community Center 19802 N 32nd St Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in his name to the Leukemia Society, Desert Mountain Chapter, 2990 E Northern Ave, Suite 100, Phoenix, AZ 85028.
