William Peter Hightower of Wickenburg died Wednesday, March 3, 1993, at the V.A. Medical Center. He was 75.
Mr. Hightower was born July 18, 1917 at Crosbyton County, Texas, and had been an Arizona resident for 22 years, moving here from Arkansas.
He was a retired miner and had also served in the Army from October 1940 to August 1945 with the Tr. F. 7th Cavalry. He had served during WWII in the southern Philippines. During his years with the Army, he received several military decorations and citations which included the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon w/4 Bronze Stars, the American Defense Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Ribbon and the Purple Heart for wounds received in action on Feb. 24, 1945.
Mr. Hightower is survived by his wife Betty of Wickenburg; daughter Clara Croga; stepdaughter Ruth Fillmore; stepsons Richard Hunter, Bobbi Hunter and James Hunter, two sisters, two brothers; 13 step-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren.
Military services were held Monday, March 8, 1993, by the Yarnell American Legion and the Congress VFW with entombment at the Genung Cemetery, Peeples Valley, Chaplain Silver Willhite officiated.
Brown Colonial Mortuary of Phoenix handled the arrangements.
