Eastern Arizona Courier, Safford, AZ Wednesday, April 21, 2010 Arturo Parra A Mass of Christian burial for Arturo Parra, 86, of Pima will be celebrated Friday, April 23, at 11 a.m. at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Committal will follow in the Pima Cemetery, with Ruben Parra Jr., Fidencio Bernal, Maico Parra, Jamie Parra, Luis F. Vanegas Jr. and Oscar Parra serving as pall bearers. A rosary and prayer vigil will be recited Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Arturo G. Parra was born Aug. 8, 1923, in Mexico, the son of Estanislado and Cornelia Parra. He attended school in Babispe, Sonora, and in 1943 married Juanita Pedrego. They were blessed with 14 children. In 1969, they moved to Pima, where Arturo worked as a rancher and in agriculture. Arturo liked camping and anything outdoors, but his favorite was gardening. He will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, husband and brother. Arturo passed away Friday, April 16, 2010, and is survived by five daughters, Cruz Guerrero, Irma Bernal, Norma Chavez and Cecilia Vanegas of Tucson and Maria Castro of Safford; four sons, Oscar, Ruben and Mario Parra of Tucson and Rene Para of Pima. He is also survived by three sisters and two brothers of Mexico, 42 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Arturo is preceded in death by his wife, Juanita, a daughter, four sons, a granddaughter, sister and brother. Online condolences may be extended at www.caldwellfuneralchapel.com.
