Former Copper Basin area resident, Michael Vernon “Mike” Coffey, 63, of Tucson, died March 17, 2010, as a result of an automobile accident. His wife Jane, son Jeff, and daughter-in-law, Denise were also injured in the accident. Denise sustained serious injuries and is currently in a rehab facility in Tucson.
Michael, the son of the late C.V “Red” and Ruth Coffey, was born July 5, 1946, in Santa Rita New Mexico, and raised in Ray, Arizona. He was a 1964 graduate of Ray District High School and attended the University of Arizona graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He earned a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and received his MBA from the University of Arizona.
Michael married the former Jane Demlow of Tucson, Arizona and is survived by his wife; their three children, Laura of Pennsylvania, Jeffrey (Denise) of New Jersey and Kevin of Georgia; sister, Patty Sirls of Tucson, and brother Robin Coffey of St. Johns, Arizona.
Memorial services for Michael are set for Saturday, May 1, at 2 p.m. at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, 3809 East Third Street in Tucson. A reception will follow the memorial service. Friends may contact Patty Coffey Sirls at 5210 West Paseo Del Campo, Tucson, Arizona 85745 for more information.
