DUKES, Oveda Beth (Granny)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 08/27/2004 Oveda Beth "Granny" Dukes, 78, died Aug. 23, 2004 at the Payson Care Center. She was born Jan. 23, 1926 in New Summerfield, Texas. On Nov. 3, 1945 she married her childhood friend, James Bird. They had one daughter, Loeta. She was a very loving mother and wife, and was a tremendous cook. In her free time, Beth loved playing Bingo. She was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and even performed on the radio in her younger years. Beth was an animal lover and her pet Chihuahua, "Sweet Pea" was her constant companion. Beth will be missed by all. Beth is survived by her daughter, Loeta (E.G.) Martin of Overgaard; sister, Jimmie Protho of Tyler, Texas; four grandchildren, Lenita (Tommy) Collier of Linden, Twila (Steve) Ingel of Kingwood, Texas, Celya (Derek) Caston of Trussville, Alabama, James (Amanda) Till of Phoenix; seven grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
