The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ January 26, 2000, p. A16 Helen Ruth West of Glendale formerly of Wickenburg, died Jan. 19, 2000 in Glendale, Ariz. She was 86. Mrs. West was born Aug 24, 1913 in Chicago and had lived in Arizona for 32 years. She moved to Wickenburg in 1968 with her husband James, now deceased. She was a hairdresser, owning ‘A La Mode Salon” before retiring approximately in 1988. She was an avid swimmer throughout Arizona and competed in the National Senior Olympics for many years, where she collected a total of 31 medals for her efforts. She taught swimming at the Wickenburg public pool, followed by several years teaching in her own pool at 1870 Aguila Dr. Mrs. West was well-known member of her community and will be loved and missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her daughter Diane Obermiller of Phoenix; grandchildren Lynda Senn of Annandale, Va., Dana Hogan of Vista, Calif., Stacey Flewellen of Tulsa, Okla., and Michael Obermiller of Tulsa, Okla.; great-grandchildren Corry, Nikki, Christian, Jason, Justin and Devin; and great-grandchild Marissa. A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 28 at the Wickenburg Funeral Home Chapel. Call the funeral home at 684-2081 for the time of the service.
