Memorial services were held at 1 p. m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000 at the Congress Community Church in Congress, Ariz., for Verle Ilene Burklow, who passed away after a long illness on Jan. 10, 2000 at the Phoenix Baptist Hospice Care Facility.
She was 66.
Verle was born December 27, 1933 in Anthony, Kan., to George and Mabel McKee. She was raised on the family farm until 1949 when the family moved to Hot Springs, N.M.
Verle graduated from the Hot Springs High School in 1951.
On June 30, 1952, she was married to Ewing L. ‘Slim” Burklow, her loving husband for 37 years, who preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1989. To this union, four children were born; two surviving daughters Susan Kay harness and Rhonda Lea Cook; a son, Lester Neal and a daughter, Donna Lynn, both died in infancy.
Moving to Arizona in 1964, the family was involved in the ranching industry, including working the Hays Ranch in Peeples Valley. After her husband’s death in 1989, Verle returned to Congress. After several years of community involvement, she retired to spend time caring for family and friends and enjoying her garden.
Her parents, George and Mabel McKee, a brother, Glen McKee; her husband “Slim” Burklow; and two infants preceded her in death.
Survivors include her dear friend Al Muchmore of Congress; daughters and their husbands Susan and Ron harness, and Rhonda and “Tuffy” Cook, both of Bagdad, Ariz.’ seven grandchildren; sisters Toby Norton of Williamsburg, N. M.; brother Frank McKee, also of Deming, N. M.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family requests that donations be made in Verle’s name to the St. Joseph Neoro Rehab Center, 350 West Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85013, in lieu of flowers.
