Elwin N. Olson of Wickenburg, died March 2 in Wickenburg. He was 78.
Mr. Olson was born May 31, 1912 in Sharon, N.D. He had lived in Arizona for the past 29 years.
Elwin was known for his love of gardening. He spent much of his time inventing things to help his garden grow. A longtime Arizona resident, Elwin was pretty much content with staying at home with his wife Mary of 20 years, and thinking up new ways to make his home surroundings more beautiful.
He serviced in the U. S. Army, enlisting in 1930, and during World War II he was involved in Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, receiving a Good Conduct Medal. While in the Army he served as a sergeant, and received three overseas service bars, and American Defense Service Medal, and European-African-Middle-Eastern Theater Service Medal before his discharge in 1945.
He was a very loving husband father and grandfather, as well as a friend. He will be missed by all those who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Wickenburg,; daughters Mary and Susan Olson; sons Dan and Ed Olson; brothers Robert and Dennis Olson; granddaughter Jennifer Callahan Mix, Miriam Williams and Charity Olson; and great-granddaughter Odessa Callahan Mix.
Graveside services were held at the VA National Cemetery in Phoenix on Tuesday, March 7. The services were officiated by the Disabled American Veterans.
