Kelly, Earl L.
Earl L. Kelly, 88, pioneer cattle feeder and cattle industry leader passed away on November 23, 2003. Earl was born in Brigham City, Utah on August 18, 1915.
He was known from his early days at the Smith & Kelly Feed Yard on East Washington when the stockyards there were the hub of activity for Arizona's cattle industry. In 1966, after the Salt River flooded a large area, including the Smith & Kelly Feed Yard, in Tempe and Phoenix, he moved his cattle feeding business and family to Maricopa in Western Pinal County. During his many years he helped shape the cattle feeding industry in Arizona. He was widely known in both the business and political arena.
Having served as the Executive Vice President of the Arizona Cattle Feeders' Association and the Arizona Beef Council he went on to become the Director of the Arizona Livestock Sanitary Board. It was there that he implemented animal disease prevention, meat inspection and other regulatory programs for the State of Arizona.
He is survived by his three children, Owen, Ray and Patty. Seven Grandchildren, Eric, Scott, Randy, Mark, Stewart, Brian and Tana. Seven Great Grandchildren, Eric, Justin, Joey, Jake, Dustin, Carley and Lilly Bug.
