The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 08/31/2004 Venola Lancaster, 79, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004 in Payson. Venola was born Aug. 28, 1924 in Snowflake. After graduating from Snowflake Union High School in 1942 she went to business college in Phoenix. She then came to McNary where she was the secretary to James E. McNary at the McNary Sawmill for three years. She met Ralph Lancaster and they were married in Gallup, New Mexico and soon thereafter were sealed in the St. George Temple July 10, 1946. They first lived in Shumway and then moved to Snowflake where they remained and raised their children. Venola loved being active in the community and she was the secretary to the Snowflake Union High School Superintendent for 28 years. After retiring she and Ralph served two missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nauvoo, Illinois, and then served a mission at the Snowflake Bishop's Storehouse for three years. Venola also had served as the Stake Primary President, Ward Relief Society President and in many other capacities, as she was always willing to serve. She and Ralph enjoyed travel, camping and gardening and they took time to go to the temple often. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Ralph W. Lancaster of Snowflake; one son, Dennis (Lynne) Lancaster of Phoenix; two daughters Joan (Ron) Dodson of Eugene, Oregon, and Jean (David) Butler of Show Low; four brothers Clair (Frankie) Decker of Mesa, Herb (Della) Decker of Snowflake, Orville (Janet) Decker of Mesa, and Lowell (Faye) Decker of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Eva (Ken) Whitt of Snowflake; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. in the Snowflake Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There will be a viewing from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at Owen's Mortuary in Snowflake and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the R.V.
