R. Keith Newton, age 78, died Sept. 5, at his home in Aripine.
Keith was born in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, and was raised in British Columbia, in the area of Prince George. He completed his elementary and secondary education there and then attended Tech school in Calgary, Alberta. He studied architecture and drafting, and then worked as a carpenter for a time. He later moved to Van Couver Island where he worked in a brick factory and a lumber mill for a time. He then worked for the Municipality and eventually became Building Inspector.
He became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to serve a mission to the Southwest Indian Mission. It was while he was serving that he met Vera Hatch. After his mission they were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They lived in Phoenix for 27 years. In the year 2000 they moved to Aripine. He was a member of the Heber Second Ward and has served five stake missions. Keith loved people, and he was an artist and a wonderful teller of stories.
Keith is survived by his wife, Vera of Aripine; one son, Ira Newton of Phoenix, three grandchildren; one brother, Donald G. Newton of Canada and sister, Shirley Tapley of Olympia, Washington.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday Sept. 11 at the Heber Chapel, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a visitation one hour prior to services at the church.
