John Mac Cole of Phoenix and a frequent visitor to the Wickenburg area, died May 4 in Phoenix. He was 77.
Mr. Cole was born Nov. 6, 1922 in Young, Texas. He had lived in Arizona for the past 55 years, moving here from Texas.
Mr. Cole was a civil servant with the U. S. government. He served in the 411th Fighter Squadron in Europe from 1943 to 1945, leaving as a sergeant. His decorations included an EAME Campaign Medal with six Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Distinguished Unit Badge. He retired from his work in civil service at the Navajo Army Depot.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Maudine Cole; daughter and son-in-law Barbara J. and Phil Cockrell; son and daughter-in-law Johnny M. and Betty Cole; daughters Cleta Sue Phillips (Cole) and Patricia A. Miller (Cole); sister Gladys Bottoms; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Willie Frank Cole and Dwayne Cole; and his parents, Mac John and Cleta Marie (Kent) Cole.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 9 at the Wickenburg Funeral Home. Funeral services followed at the funeral home, with graveside services at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. Pastor Joe Paul Grandberry officiated.
Pallbearers were Donny Miller, Ronnie Baldwin, Alfredo Guerrero, Clint Cole, Charlie Shaull and Dann Webb.
Honorary pallbearers were Scott Mitchell, Danny Cole, Edward Phillips, Johnny Cole, Jr., and Eddie Cockrell.
The Wickenburg Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
