Socorro Garcia Cruz, 90, passed away in Mesa on Friday, April 23, 2010. She was born in Hayden, December 20, 1919. Mrs. Cruz liked being a homemaker and the mother of two daughters. Knitting, quilting, sewing, and the pursuit of a variety of arts and crafts, as well as ceramics were her main interests and hobbies.
Socorro, always an active church member, was an original member of the St. Joseph's Altar Society and, much later in life, regularly attended the Hayden Senior Citizens Center.
Mrs. Cruz is survived by one daughter, Ebby Oatis of Superior, and by three grandchildren: Steven Oatis, Melanie Lake, and Bryan Oatis. There are six great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband, Guadalupe Cruz, some 25 years ago; her baby Lucia; and her granddaughter, Melissa A. Oatis.
On Friday, April 30, St. Joseph's Catholic Church will host the services. The visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m., with the Rosary at 10 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Fr. Raul Trevizo. Interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery in Hayden.
