Anna May Tunmore died Monday, March 29 in Essex, Conn., at the age of 101. She was the daughter of Harry and Ida May Voege. She graduated from Dana Hall and Smith College, class of 1930.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Conrad of Darien, Conn., and Wickenburg, Ariz.; her grandchildren Ann C. Stewart and Catherine C. Teitler of New Canaan, Conn., and James W.T. Conrad of Tutzing, Germany; their spouses, and eight great-grandchildren.
After her graduation from Smith, Anna May Tunmore became treasurer of a small brokerage firm on Wall Street and an officer of a business in New York, which had been in the family for more than 125 years.
She married John J. Tunmore in 1937 and they lived an extraordinary life in New York; Philadelphia, Pa.; New Canaan, Conn.; and Essex, Conn. She was a former member of the New Canaan Country club, Old Lyme Country Club, Ekwanok Country Club in Dorset, Vt., and the Rancho de los Caballeros Golf Club in Wickenburg, where she spent winters with her husband for many years.
Anna May Tunmore was a guiding presence and matriarch for an extended and loving family who will miss her laughter, joy, and love of life. There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life May 16 at the Talmadge Hill Church in New Canaan.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Desert Caballeros Western Museum in Wickenburg.
