CURTIS, Michael Joseph (Bear)


Lamont Mortuary of Globe, Globe, Arizona Michael Joseph "Bear" Curtis, age 57, passed away April 22, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. He was born July 17, 1952 in San Carlos, AZ to Paul and Louise Curtis. He was raised in Superior, A. He later attended the American Indian Bible School but it was too strict. He modeled at Santa Fe Institute. "Bear", a nickname given to him by his sister Pauline, also worked at the Inspiration Smelter in Miami, AZ and at Bashas where he later became produce manager. His greatest job may have been caretaker for his parents and for this he served his lord well. He was a gifted artist and spent many hours sitting by a bright lamp doing his artwork; hair tied back with a colorful scarf and music playing. He could turn a few art pencils and a black piece of paper into something beautiful and unique. He always had a kind word for those he came across and was willing to lend a helping hand. we will miss his smile and his laugh but we will remember him with joy in our hearts. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Paula Finney, Lorraine Curtis and Nancy Curtis. He is survived by his wife Joann Curtis of Superior, his brothers Ray(Virginia) and Johnny Curtis(Virginia), numerous nieces and nephews as well as many friends. The visitation will be held April 30 at 1:00 pm at Lamont Mortuary Chapel followed by the wake at 4:00 pm at Ray and Virginia Curtis' residence. The service will be held May 1 at 10:00 am at Cutter Church in Cutter, AZ followed by the interment at Mormon Hill San Carlos Cemetery.
