Hostetler of Wickenburg passed away on the morning of June 26, 2000 at the Sunwest Nursing Center in Sun City West while under hospice care. Fortunately, he only spent five days there. He was 72. Jim was born to Roger H. and Norma D. Hostetler on Sept. 5, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa. Later it was his tour of service in the U. S. Army that eventually sent him to Southern California, where he married and raised his three children. He had been a resident of Wickenburg since 1986, after moving here to retire with his wife Edna after more than 30 years of employment with the Southern California Edison Company in various management positions. Before his health began to fail him, Jim had been active in civic affairs and was best known for his bridge-playing prowess with his many friends at the Wickenburg Country Club. In earlier years, he was involved in the Boys Scouts organization and high school booster clubs. He also was a member of the Fraternal order of Free and Accepted Masons. Jim's survivors include his daughter Sandra L. Knox of Castle Rock, Colo.; sons Jim G. Hostetler Jr. of Raleigh, N. C., and Greggory L. Hostetler of Everett, Wash. Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive him. To them, he was lovingly known as “PaPU” - a nickname bestowed upon him by a then 2-year-old grandchild, James III, and which eventually became a license plate tag on the truck he “just had to have” when he moved “Out Wickenburg Way.” Perhaps their fondest memory of PaPu will be the rides in his old golf cart around the property they always looked forward to when visiting. Jim will be laid to rest in the Wickenburg Cemetery alson side his wife, who preceded him in death by only 18 months. As Jim requested, there will not be any special services or memorial. However, contributions in his memory to In-Home Health Hospice, at either the Wickenburg or the Mesa offices, would be appreciated by his children and by others whom one day might need the loving services and care they provide, as both he and his wife did. Arrangements were conducted by Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wickenburg.
