Roland Wooten Selman III, 59, of Wickenburg, passed away in his home on Sept. 10 following a short battle with cancer.
“Ro” was born Aug. 16, 1941 in Leewood, Kan. He was a flight office in the Navy from 1963-1968, and served as a Vietnam combat veteran, earning two Distinguished Flying Crosses.
Following his discharge from the Navy, he attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature. He went to the University of California, Hasting College of Law where he earned his juris Doctor, magna cum laude.
Ro was a General Partner for Pillsbury, Madison and Sutro in San Francisco, Calif., from 1971-1995. His principal area of practice was government regulation of business, with emphasis on businesses operating in California.
From 1995-1998, Ro served as counsel to the California Commission on Judicial Performance. He conducted formal proceedings and litigation concerning alleged misconduct by judges and justices of the California courts.
Throughout his years involved in the practice of law, Ro was a member of the American Bar Association, the National Health Lawyers Association, the San Francisco Bar Association, and the Lawyers Club of San Francisco. In addition, Ro was a member of the Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law.
Ro retired in 1988 to pursue his love to travel. He found great joy in being on the road in his RV and discovering the unique character and people of the backroads of American.
Ro was a man of great love and integrity. His compassion for others was evidenced by the amount of time he voluntarily spent giving his advice and counsel to those who needed it. His life was truly one of service.
Ro will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, jean Calder Selman of Wickenburg, and his daughter, Kellee R. Harris of Lutz, Fla.
Memorial services will be held in Marin County, Calif.
