Gordon W. Pelkey of 83 N. Grant St. in Wickenburg, went to be with his Lord on Friday evening, Nov. 24. He was 68.
He was born July 2, 1932.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marybelle, whom he married on Dec. 15, 1991. They moved to Wickenburg in 1997.
An elementary teacher for 40 years in Vermont and Teaneck, N. J., he also did some administrative work in his school district. Before his teaching there, he taught the children of servicemen and women in Morocco, where he was stationed in the U.S. Navy. Gordon also served in the Korean War.
He received his master’s degree from Castleton University, in Castleton, VT. He was member of the Tri-County Retired Teachers Association in Arizona; a lifetime member of the American legion; a member of the veterans of Foreign Wards; a member of the New Jersey Education Association; a member of First Presbyterian Church; and a member of the Emmaus group.
Gordon often spoke of his love for children and how much he missed teacher. It is his family’s request that memorials go for scholarships to the youth of the First Presbyterian Church for graduates and for camp scholarships.
Survivors include; also surviving are two daughters, Delia McKenzie of Maryland and Beth Shuler of Oradell, N.J.; two sons, Sandy Pelkey of New York state and Fred Crum, of Middletown, N.J.; a sister, Rose Ellen Whitney of Arizona; one brother, Richard Mason of Concord, N.H.; and six grandchildren, Kyle, Glenn, Michael, Stephen, Megham and Kelly.
A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30. Officiating will be the Rev. James Longstreet and the Rev. John Martin.
