Lewis L. Haynes, II, died Sept. 21, 2004 where he reunited with his wife, Mary B. Haynes.
Just before his 81st birthday, he lay peacefully in bed at RTA Hospice and Palliative Care. He began his life in Saratoga Springs, New York, Sept. 25, 1923. During his young life he served our country as a Marine. He started a family with his life's love, Mary Benton. They married Sept. 2, 1945, at the Church of St. Peter in New York. He then relocated to Phoenix, in 1959 where he worked for Marathon Steel for 18 years.
He and his family moved to the White Mountains in the early 1980s. Lewis then became part of the Safeway family, which was his second home since the store's opening. He was a beloved father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by many.
Lewis is survived by his children, Lewis L. Haynes III, Elizabeth Ketring, Stephen Haynes, Marion Richmond, and Michael Haynes; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and the countless number of people that were touched by him.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 25. The time and place is still to be determined at the time of this printing.
