Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona May 3, 1973 Mrs. Elizabeth Lockwood Thurber, wife of W.S. (Sky) Thurber and familiarly known among her many friends as “Liz”, died in Good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix. She had been a patient there for some time and her death followed a lingering illness. As owners of the Calico Corner retail establishment here, she was well know as an original dress and costume designer. She was a charter member of Las Damas, the women’s riding organization. Born November 8, 1905 in Jamaica Plain, Mass. Now a part of the city of Boston, she first came to Arizona and Wickenburg with Mr. Thurber in December 1948, as a guest at Remuda Ranch. Shortly thereafter the Thurbers’ acquired extensive land holdings in the Remuda area, including the well known “W” Mountain and built their beautiful home there. Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Gus Tuttle, rector presiding. Private burial was in the Wickenburg cemetery.
