The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ April 25, 1974, p. 1 Man Dies In Fire A 75 year old Wickenburg man burned to death in an early Wednesday morning fire at 11 North Washington Street. Melford F. Lott died in the fire that engulfed and totally destroyed his small frame house, and then spread to a nearby apartment building. The blaze was noticed shortly after 1:00 am Wednesday by a Maricopa County Deputy Sheriff on duty at the Police and Sherriff’s substation only 75 feet from the house. Volunteer fireman rushed to the scene, but the home was enveloped in flames when they arrived The fire spread to the Western Apartments next door and before it was contained caused extensive damage to seven apartments. None of the occupants were injured. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
