Matthew Hessinger, 22, son of Joseph and Shelley Hessinger of Pinetop-Lakeside, died suddenly Sept. 20 in Marquette, Michigan, after complaining of chest pains.
Matt was born Jan. 10, 1982, and raised in the White Mountains. He graduated from Blue Ridge High School in 2000. He was a senior at Northern Michigan University, and planned to go on to University of Wyoming law school following graduation.
According to a family friend, Matt checked himself into the hospital the day he died, as he was having chest pains. He died in the hospital. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
He is survived by his father, Atty. Joseph Hessinger; mother, Shelley; brother, Joseph; maternal grandparents, Eva van Horn and Jack Trelford; and paternal grandmother, Julie Hessinger.
Funeral services will be Sept. 24 in Michigan. Memorial services at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church will be announced when the family returns home to Pinetop-Lakeside.
A memorial fund has been set up to help the family with whatever they need. Donations may be taken to the following locations: The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour on Show Low Lake Road; St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church on South Penrod Lane in Pinetop; the law offices of Tim Shaffery in Pinetop Professional Plaza; or in Wagon Wheel Plaza White Mountain Hearing Services.
