GOREE, Viola Ruth

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 09/28/2004 Viola Ruth Goree, age 82, passed away Friday September 24, 2004 at Navapache Regional Medical Center. She was born in San Pedro, California where she grew up and attended school there. When she was 17 years old, she met Roy Goree. They fell in love and were married soon after. They had two children, James Richard & Joyce Arlene. Viola was a homemaker all of her life, she was an active member of the Torrance United Methodist Church. She was a resident of Southern California for 75 years. Viola was a great pianist and she loved to sing. In her later years, Viola attended Shepard of the Pines United Methodist Church in Heber, AZ where she resided for the past 7 years. In her free time Viola collected milk glasses of which she had over 300 pieces. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and all who knew her loved her. Viola was a joy to be around. Viola is survived by her children, James (Mary) Goree of Medford, Oregon, Joyce (LeRoy) Bates of Heber; 2 sisters, Arlene (George) Cofield of Las Vegas, NV, Mary Larsen of Torrance, CA; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Joseph Goree. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday October 7, 2004 at the Greenhills Memorial Park Cemetery in Rancho Palos Verde, CA. Owens Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
