James Dale Fergus, 59, died Sept. 14, 2004.
He was born July 23, 1942 to James A. and Leone Fergus in Wichita, Kansas. Jim attended Tucson High School, Eastern Arizona Junior College, and Arizona State University. He graduated with a bachelor's in Aeronautical Technology and master's in Library Science, Education. He married Diane Frost Nov. 20, 1965 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They are the proud parents of five children; and 13 grandchildren.
Service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been continual. He was the group leader in An Khe, South Vietnam; Maricopa Stake Director of Libraries, counselor in the Kayenta Branch, Arizona Holbrook Mission and then served as counselor for three bishops in the Kayenta Ward, Kayenta.
He served as an assistant executive secretary in the Show Low Stake, Show Low. Returning to Kayenta, he served as branch president for the El Capitan Branch. Moving to Chula Vista, he served as counselor in a bishopric, a high counselor, Stake Young Men's presidency, and Bishop for the Single Adult Ward. He has been a teacher on many levels and auxiliaries.
He taught school at Central High School in Phoenix; Show Low High School and Northland Pioneer College in Show Low; Monument Valley High School in Kayenta, and Crawford High School in San Diego, California.
He owned Fergus Graphic Arts in Chula Vista for 20 years, was active in the Chula Vista Downtown Business Association, he served as a board member for 20 years and president for three terms. Jim was a member of Bonita Sunrise Rotary Club where he served as newsletter editor for 11 years.
A scouter, hiker, trainer, Jim was a member of Boy Scouts of America for 24 years. He served as Scout Master, Varsity Leader, Unit Commissioner, Assistant District Commissioner, Roundtable Commissioner, Scout Leader Basic Trainer, Varsity Leader Basic Trainer, Council Varsity Trainer, and Silver Beaver Recipient. Jim served three years in the US Army where he served a tour in Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; children, Brian (Maria) Fergus, Timothy (Pamela) Fergus, Jared (Rhea) Fergus, Elizabeth (Dan) Kauffold, grandchildren, Martha, Sara, James, Hillary, Tabitha, Elijah, Michaela, Katarina, and Zoe, Tavish, Alexzander, Kathryn, Lauren; parents, James A. Fergus, Leone Bleak and sister Shana and David Hill.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 25 with interment at Glen Abbey Cemetery in Chula Vista.
