David Robert Overly, 52, born March 19, 1958, in Elmhurst, Ill., passed away April 25, 2010, in Prescott, Ariz.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St., Prescott.

David Robert Overly, age 52, passed away on April 25, 2010, in Prescott, Ariz. He was born on March 19, 1958, in Elmhurst, Ill., to A. Robert and Carol F. Overly.
He graduated from York Community High School in 1976 and earned an associate's degree from Lewis University in Joliet, Ill., and an A&P degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. He was an air traffic controller and worked for the FAA and a pilot with Southwest Airlines. His interests included flying, hunting, fishing and motorcycles.
David is survived by his fiancée, Sheri Piper; father A. Robert Overly; mother Carol F. Overly; brothers Christopher L. (Susan) Overly and Thomas W. (Andrea) Overly; nieces Jennifer Overly Ericksen and Amanda (Matthew) Gardner; nephew Scott Overly and Benjamin D. (Machie) Overly; and great-niece Kelsea Inez Gardner.
David was a man of the earth and loved all of God's creations. He cared for creatures big and small. David's gifts were his overwhelming compassion and his ability to mentor friends and strangers alike. He could make those around him feel safe and protected. He provided support and offered guidance to those who needed help with their vocation or in life.
A service for David will be at 1 p.m. on May 15, 2010, at the United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St. in Prescott. In lieu of flowers or cards, the family is requesting donations to help establish a memorial scholarship fund at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Contributions for the David Robert Overly Memorial Scholarship may be mailed to the Office of Development, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, 3700 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, AZ 86301. Checks should be made out to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and note "Overly Memorial Scholarship" on the memo line.
