PIPER, Marlon


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona - 10/26/2004 Marlon Piper, 84, died Oct. 17, 2004 at the VA Hospital in Phoenix. He was born in Silver Creek, Georgia Aug. 13, 1920. He married Mildred and they were together 65 years, and together raised two daughters in California, where he was the Caterpillar appraisal for Shepherd Machinery He became the equipment buyer and appraiser for Schwab Sales of Arizona in 1978. He served his country on the U.S.S. Fletcher in the South Pacific in World War II. After retiring in 2002, he and Mildred moved to their daughter and son-in-law's ranch outside of Snowflake, where he spent his days gardening, woodworking and tinkering. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; daughter Deborah (Levi) Slaughter; granddaughter Elizabeth Wiederhold; her father Les; a sister, Francis; brother Calvin Clifford; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Marlynn and brother Edward. A memorial service will be held Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church, 2035 S. Penrod Lane in Pinetop, followed by a luncheon hosted by the Dorcas Society. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the building fund at Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church.
